I want to consult a few dentist in my area to get their opinion
on my teeth (possible cavity and root canal).  It seems each
dentist wants to take full-mouth x-rays as the first step.  So I
have two ways to do this.

1. Let the first dentist take a full-mouth x-rays.  Then use its
copies for the subsequent consultation. This option costs $25 for
each copy.  Or

2: let each dentist take their own x-rays.  My insurance covers
it so I would pay nothing.

Does it matter?

Yes it matters.  #1, your insurance company is unlikey to pay for
3-4 sets of full mouth X-rays in a couple of months.  #2, it would
be an unnecessary exposure to radiation for you.

A cooperative dental office can do one of two things for you.  Burn
the digital images to a CD, or if the office does not have digital
X-rays, they can shoot them with double film packs, and give you
a diagnostic set to shop around with.

With 'dental shopping', you will hear varied treatment plans.  It
may be difficult to pick the 'right' one.  Also, a dentist who
detects your 'shopping mode' may inflate the estimate of fees to
either discourage your coming back, or at least make it worthwhile
to put up with a more challenging case.
