Due to an accident I am currently on Medical/Dental assistance from my county government. My wife has never had to work in our twenty-two years of marriage until recently when I was in an accident and disabled. Now I am homebound in bed 23.5/7, in litigation with my employer's insurer long term disability insurer and waiting for a decision from the SSA. Since my wife is now working I will be losing my government Medical/Dental assistance on January 1, 2008. I have some dental work that I need to have performed so I went about doing that beginning in early August. My DDS office initially said that they would not take Delta Dental that the county is providing to me but they would make an exception -- when they found out that I would have insurance through the bank at which my wife now works. On August 21st, at my third appointment, my DDS put on some temporary medical filling cement. Now I am being told that I need to wait until January 2, 2008 before any additional work is done so that we can make sure that my teeth don't react badly to the medicated fillings. I am not very well versed in dental terminology but I know that I need permenant fillings on two teeth. The insurance that I have only covers for the cheapest of the available filling types. My question is should there be any reason that I would normally have to have these temporary fillings on for four months? Could the temporary medicated fillings cause more harm than good over that length of time? Thank you for any insight. Dan Does not sound like any issue to worry about. However, if the temporary filling is placed to "sooth" the nerve, be prepared for a RCT in the near future. Maybe not, but be prepared.
