I had a molar pulled the other day.. I do not know if I have dry socket. I
can not see a blood clot but I can see lots of stitches. This tooth grew in
leaning  sideways. Broke 2 times while trying to pull it &  root had
calcified or something like that so they basically dug it out. It took 2
dentists & over an hour (maybe 2) to get it out & stitched up. Today Monday
was 1st day since it was pulled on last Tuesday that I did not have aching
all day. Was on an antibiotic so I doubt there is infection. They had
actually pulled 2 teeth. one was starting to abcess (came out easy) & the
other was infected. I had no pain from either abcesss or infection but that
is  not unusual for me. Does it sound like dry socket or just so much trauma
getting it out?  Thanks for any replies

Here are the basic symptoms of  alveolar alveolitis <dry socket>.

~Three days post extraction: (onset)

Lower extraction in females (most common)

Constantly hurts, pain meds usually don't help much, or for
very long.

There maybe a foul odor or taste.

The symptoms are so pathognomonic that we can
almost diagnose this over the phone. However,
you must be seen in person for an actual real life diagnosis.

Duration of symptoms is variable.
Easily treated, relief within minutes.
Downside: you have to go to a dentist to get this treated.
Some dentists will give you the medication to treat this yourself
if travel time is an issue, or if it is Friday. 8^]]
(we don't want you to hurt over the weekend)

By definition <dry socket> is not an infection.
Trauma from surgery is always a consideration.

Best wishes,

Thanks newbie
I will be going back this week to get stitches out so they will check it out.
I have the foul taste in morning but pain is on & off & not severe. I also
have had dry mouth at night for years which gives me a yucky taste in morning
but  this is worse than usual Also have other oral problems that are related
to oralmandibular dystonia (tongue thrusting & spasms) These all add to any
oral problem I think. Thanks again for your reply

You have a wet blood clot in your mouth.  I would expect you to have bloody
taste to your mouth and bloody smell to your breath until the socket closes
up.

There is a sort of  blood taste especially in morning but I see no blood clot
unless it is under stitches. As far as blood smell I do not notice an odor
but they say it is hard to smell your own breath. Thanks
