I just had my new implant placed in my mouth. lower left... not the last
tooth but right next to it. I was wondering if it was strange that the fake
tooth that they placed in the empty space looks uneven compared to the good
tooth on my lower right side. The new implant appears more rectangular where
the real tooth on the right side is a little bit wider.

When they make these crowns don't they try to match up exactly what is on
the other side of the mouth for symmetry ? I could and will live with this
tooth...unless someone can convince me that I should complain about it. I
was just wondering if this was an error on the part of the dentist when
ordering the crown or if that is a normal expected outcome.

thank you

With back teeth, proper placement and bite are more important than
precise shape.  Of course it shouldn't be uncomfortable, and the anatomy
should allow easy oral hygiene.  Also, the shape of the opposite tooth
may have changed over the years due to the tooth it is in contact with
and bites against.
Bottom line--unless there is discomfort this doesn't sound like much of
a problem, but by all means if you are concerned you should bring the
issue up with your dentist.

Thanks for the response Steve. The new implant is not uncomfortable and it
seems that the dentist did properly place the tooth for easy oral hygiene
and the bite seems ok. However, in telling me the shape of my REAL tooth on
the opposite side has changed over the years is questionable. I understand
your point but recalling the tooth that was extracted.. which was identical
to the real tooth on the opposite side ..  a little bit wider and deeper on
one side and more of a square shape than a rectangular one like the fake
tooth...  I would think that when it came time for the molding of the
implant that the dentist would have tried to make the crown more equal in
appearance to the old one by at least comparing it with the exact one on the
opposite side of my mouth. I will bring the issue up with my dentist after a
week depending on how I feel about it... right now it's still very new to me
as I just got the procedure done yesterday. I just notice it whenever I look
in the mirror. thanks for your input
