Teeth whitening dental bleach.

I was speaking to a dentist friend the other day and was told that
many years ago the dental profession would  use dental bleach to
improve the gums.

I welcome your feedback on this  ? Does anyone have any data on this
subject ?

I know that dental bleach is now used for teeth whitening treatments
but how does it help improve the gums ?
