ok fellow Docs.. just courious, what is "YOUR" preference of choice if
you had to have a fairly good sized restoration placed on a lower 1st
molar.
I would have to go with Gold inlay/onlay hands down..

My only indirect restoration in my mouth is a full gold crown on tooth
#31. The buccal wall fractured New Year's eve 1 1/2 years ago.
If there had been more tooth structure I might have gone for the onlay,
but with the crown I got more retention.

Gold onlay, if enough tooth structure, and gold crown if not, provided its
on a molar. For a premolar, definitely a tooth-coloured restoration (PFM,
Procera, or Empress onlay), unless the patient really wants gold. I really
like the way gold looks. I do a fair amount of gold work, but ultimately
leave it up to the patient to decide after my 2 cents.

Machine milled ceramic.
Same hardness as enamel. Same coefficient of expansion as tooth.
