Hi all - got a root canal recently and currently have a temporary
filling. This is a front tooth, so the filling is not on the biting /
chewing surface of the tooth, its on the back. Is there anything I
need to avoid eating or doing before the dentist puts the permanent
filling in? The dentist didn't say anything like that, but I can feel
the temp filling with my tounge and it feels like there might have
been some excess filling material there right afterwards, but in the
days since the excess seems to have diminished - that's fine I
suppose, I just don't want the main filling itself to diminish too.

There was a similar question about 2 months ago. You might want to
search the archives. IIRC temporary fillings last several months.

Hi,
I realize it is four days later, and this may no longer be a problem. So
long as the access opening will be properly sealed in the next few weeks, I
would not worry about it. Relax and enjoy life. Just do NOT use your tooth
as a tool,,,,,, no biting fingernails or cuticles, no opening ketchup
wrappers with your teeth, cutting thread, etc.
