Since we are talking about impactions, want to
tell ya'll about a recent purchase.

Bought an NSK AK455L TU last week.

This is a 45 degree high speed, with large torque
head and titanium body. The hand piece fits KaVo
style couplers and is cellular fiber optic.

(am using Vector couplers which are KaVo compatible)

There is no air jet, just a stream of water that hits the
head of a surgical length FG bur (am using 702).

Haven't operated with it yet but judging from the design
and just running it; this hp is likely to make short
work of those lower horizontals. It's quiet too.

OK, the model #  NSK Ti-Max AK455L
Different from what the box says.

It looks nice, but I really do refer most
lower thirds that are very tough.  Not that I can't do
them, but most patients want to be sedated, so I just send
them on.

I could use one on just the stubborn roots once in a while,
but I wouldn't need the 45º angle.

Pretty busy with all of the other stuff anyway.

:-)

Lately I have found all my third molar removal patients want to be "put to
sleep".  So they get referred out to my favorite OMFS.  The cases are
relatively easy ones for me to do, but if they want sedation, I am not going
to insist they change their minds.

It has been a while since we did a set of impactions now.

We frequently use oral sedation in the office, predictable and easy.

The 45º can come in very helpful for those stubborn humongous
lower first molars. Also 45º hps are designed for surgical length FG burs
so the turbine is less likely to get trashed than an operative hp.

BTW I really love the Vector hps with the torque head.
Makes quick work of endo access and crown preps.
You can't hardly stall them, and the optics are very good.

Allrighty then !

Got a couple of chances to use the new 'wizzie wonder'
today. What a beautiful instrument.
Cuts like a hot knife through warm butta.

Respect you guys that don't want to mess with
WTs but if you need a hp for the occasional
monstrous first molar this is your ticket.

A Piezoelectric unit is the way to go. Will only cut hard tissues less
chance of trauma to the nerve. Healing is much faster. very
conservative bone cutting.
Access and visibility can not be compared to any handpiece.
No worries about blowing air, although I believe that rumour for
wisdom teeth removal is a bunch of nonsense.
Great for debridement, bone collection for grafting ridge splitting
etc...

There is only one unit I know of which is 14K
I've seen another that's  little over 1K. does the exact same thing.
I have one from spartan USA but I am looking for the fancy tips which
they do not make.
I've used mine for extractions with the diamond tip.

I have to say something with these recent prices for dental equipment
it's outragious.
14K for a Piezo which is nothing more than a tuned up cavitron, 20K/
operatory for light camera deal from camsight, another 20K to upgrade
panorex pc1000 to digital, 18K for virtual impression scanner and you
still have to pay per use for each model to a company that can later
up that price and have you by the cohones, $7k per digital sensor/ $2k
for a repair job on these things, $5k for a cordless diagnodent, 120K
for a cerec 3D,etc..... oh and lets not forget the laser $45K,
ofcourse dr you need a website for $5K. It's insane.

Alex......It is the age of digital dentistry.......Remember every time
your soft ware is upgraded.....we also need to upgrade our
computers......I just upgrade all my computer for the new dentrix, but
now I need to buy new intra-oral camera-Gendex.....because the graphic
card no longer fit into the new Dell computer.....New graphic
card.....new camera needed. So expect to spent money every 4-5 years
for new technology.......... No wonder the cost of business keep going
up..........

By the way........$5K for the web site......It is expensive.....But it
look nice, and I like it. It look much more professional than my home
made web site.

Agreed.

The NSK Ti-Max 455L @ $595 is looking like a bargain eh ?

Sounds similar to the Impact Air 45, which we used in dental school for
exos.

Considered the Impact Air 45 but it is a small head design
and not the larger torque head. Also NSK makes these in
multiple swivel connector types. Am using Vector hps and
the connector is KaVo compatible. This made it an easy
decision, since I didn't really want to install an entire new
fiber optic system.

If you need a 45º hp for surgical exts, the NSK is a very nice instrument.
