Wasn't sure if the dentists on this site were aware of these guidelines,
just released last week:

Nope.  None of us are memebers of the ADA and we rarely read anything
except ridiculous usenet newsgroups.

Did I mention that we are also old?

;-)

I was so grateful to see this last week.  I have felt for many years that
the risk of anaphylactic shock was greater than the risk of SBE for mitral
valve and similar conditions.  This will reduce the cost of healthcare for
this country a notch.

Certainly big drug companies weren't behind the decision.

It is not just the cost of the Rx.  It is the cost of explaining to the
patient why they need to take the drug, calling in the Rx, checking to see
they had the script filled when confirming the appointment, making sure they
took the Rx the day of the appointment, re-appointing if they forget to take
the Rx, etc.

Then there is the nightmare of a young child who has a mild murmur, is
allergic to Penicillin and cannot swallow pills.  You have to have a
pharmacy formulate Clindamycin solution no sooner than the day before the
appointment, as the solution is only stable for 48 hours.

Life will be much simpler now.

I agree with you entirely, but the drug lobby in Washington is mighty
powerful.

Disagree strongly.  Still the cardiologist should have the
final word. Tend to go with the AHA guidelines however.

Yes........I saw this on Dental town last week.......But it is
difficult to change immediately....I still prescribe my patients who
used to be premedicated. It will take me a few months to digest the
new guide line
Amatus Cremona - 26 Apr 2007 12:27 GMT
Digest???

It is very clear what the new guidelines say.

Do you need to review it?

Did you actually read it?

Now....Is this an response or a personal attack?
Amatus Cremona - 26 Apr 2007 20:18 GMT
I thought the guidelines are very clear.  If someone else does not think so
it can be discussed.
