Sinus Lift and Nasal Discharge

Hi,

I just has a sinus lift surgery completed one week ago. I think it
went well and the doctor performing it did not mention any
complications. I was given Amoxicillin to use for 10 days.

I did notice having more of the greenish thick nasal drip in the
morning. What really gets me is this random runny nose from one
nostril (on the side of the procedure) that just starts up randomly.
It happens couple of times a day - usually when I lay down or tilt my
head downwards. It is yellow/green but not thick by any means. It can
be embarrassing though.

Please let me know if this is a pretty common occurence with sinus
lift/augmentation procedures and if so does it go away. My Dr is out
of town for a week and I just want to know if I need to see somebody
else. Thank you for your time.

When in doubt, have it looked at.  I'm sure your surgeon would want to
see you after a week anyhow to check healing, and if he/she was going
out of town I'm sure there is a covering surgeon.

I agree with Dr. Bornfeld. You need to have your surgeon check the
site. I told my patient not to blow their nose for at least a week for
lateral window sinus lift, and the best is a month. All of my sinus
patient were given nasal decongestant for at least a week after the
surgery. If you have green to yellow discharge....We often culture to
check for type of pathogen. It is too early to tell. But amoxicillin
is not what I normally give.....Clindamycin is my drug of choice.
