I'm 49 yr old man...... god health but having esophagus
pain.
I've had gastric reflux in past.... but don't drink
alcohol anymore,,,,don't eat after 7pm..... don't
smoke.. have bed elevated 6 inches. Bottom line I do
EVERYTHING I can do to keep GERD in control.
Abt 3 weeks ago I started GERD like symptoms
again...... the only thing I can think of different is
that I now wear an NT device that keeps my teeth apart
to keep form grinding them in sleep.
I'm wondering if this device is somehow exacerbating
GERD problems?

Not by any mechanism I can think of. Have you checked with your physician?

Not sure if this helps, but the reflux problems I have been
experiencing were kind of random. They come, cause pain for a month or
two, and then disappear. There might not be a causal connection to
your current habits or the NTI.

I have used NTI on GERD patients. It has never been a problem for me.
What did your dentist said?

So what do you think was causing your GERD problems?

I've had GERD since I was about 7-8. Back then, I just thought it was
heartburn. There's probably a plaque somewhere in the Mylanta Hall of
Fame as one of the Consumers of the Year (or Decade).
As I got older, various doctors recommended various treatments, such
as you suggested. About 5-6 years ago, one prescribed Protonix.
Problem solved. Gone. Complete cure. I have since been switched to
Omeprazole, which seems to be about as good.
I can eat tomato sauce for the first time in 4 years.
Ask you doc about meds -- I think they are called "proton pumps".

OK
But he has me taking Prilosec right now
Would the switch to Protonix be worthwhile still?
