Temporary crowns driving me crazy.

Hi, great group you have here.
on 4/3/07 I had 3 temporary crowns placed in preparation for a 1 tooth
bridge. 2 of the teeth had root canals in November (fillings fell out
and I neglegted them too long). In front of those is a gap from a tooth
that was pulled 18 months ago after splitting to below the gum line
(root canal I was not told ought to be crowned). Next to that is another
temporary crown on what was a sound tooth but had to be crowned in order
to place the bridge. So I now have 3 temporary crowns + one fake
tooth/crown. This crown-appliance-thing is driving me NUTS! Especially
the 2 that are on the 2 root canal teeth. It doesn't really hurt so much
as it feels like my teeth or gums or being pinched or squeezed. They
seem to have stuck some sort of wire under my gums, I can see it. Is
part of what will hold the brigde? I can't find any info online about
this wire stuff. I call it wire because that's what the dentist called
it when he poked me with the needle again without warning me first: "oh
I didn't want you to feel this while I was trying to get this wire under
your gums". I think it's this wire that's bothering me so much. Also,
when I rinse my mouth with water I swear it's getting inside the crowns,
especially the one where I have no tooth. I get the permanent crowns +
bridge on 4/19/07. Is this thing going to feel like that till then? Will
the permanent crowns + bridge be just as annoying? Where can I find some
in-depth information about this "wire"?
I have 4 other crowns done by this same dentist in the last 6 months and
they look and feel great. Should I call them up and tell them this
latest thing is driving me batty?
FWIW, this bridge is costing me $4000 in central Ohio. I'd love to hear
what this would cost elsewhere around the planet.
TIA.

The solution is:
Winrar and/or DvdDecrypter.
Install the ac3 audio codec.

Is it really a wire/string ? I remember my temporary being seated
improperly which left a tiny but noticeable gap near the gumline. I
also remember string being used during the buildup presumably to get
better access to the work area but that was removed at the end of the
procedure. Maybe some of it got stuck in your case ?

(Not a dentist..)

Thanks for the reply. I think the "wire" may actually be just the edge
of the temporary.

The cost is reasonable for the area.

The shape, contour and smoothness of temporizes have no effect on the final
crown, unless they cause gum tissue irritations to the degree that tissue
contours change.

There are no *wires* used for this procedure.  There is often a cord (think
piece of string) which is packed into the space between the tooth and gum
tissues for the duration of the impression.  Once every ten years, a dentist
will forget a cord in place, and be embarrassed when the patient returns a
few days later with discomfort.  The cord is easily removed at that time and
the tissues heal promptly.

A new temporary bridge **ALWAYS** drives the patient nuts.  Their tongue is
adapted to pushing through the space of the missing tooth every time they
swallow.  Now, there is a plastic tooth in the way, and the tongue is
fighting it.  This passes in a few days to a couple of weeks.

Temporary crowns are notorious for not sealing very well.  It would not be
unusual for some liquid to seep under the temporizes every time you rinse,
eat or drink.

OT --  what's a temporary?  [this line is for SB only]

What !?!? you don't make bridge temporaries ?

The OP also had a single tooth temporary.

Bridge temporaries are referred to as "transitional bridges"   :-)

Thanks very much for the reply. Feels much better today. Only the back
of the 2 root canal teeth bothering me now. I think what I was looking
at which I thought was "wire" is actually the margin of the temporary.
They did make several inpressions. The tech also mentioned that part of
the temporary was being stubborn about staying seated. I will be glad
not to have that hole in my smile anymore when this is all finished.

Right...a stubborn temporary.
I have had the same temporary seated once by a tech and once by a
dentist. Guess which one fit perfectly without any excessive gaps. ;)
