hi

i have a wisdom tooth that is growing on a slant on the bottom left of
my mouth. as a result, a cavity has formed on the molar just in front
of said wisdom tooth. the dentist said that he can't fill it until the
wisdom tooth is extracted.

i'm debating going to an oral surgeon who will charge $350 to do it
next week and the local university who'll do it for $100 in about 6
weeks. my worry is that the cavity will grow and reach the nerve and
i'll end up having to do far more work on the tooth than if i'd have
the work done earlier.

any suggestions?

Check the xray of the tooth to see the extent of the cavity and how
close to the nerve it currently is, then ask your dentist whether he
thinks it can wait for 6 weeks to be filled. That said, xrays can be
very misleading regarding the true extend of a cavity and a decision
to postpone necessary treatment always carries its risks.

George
