After you have a crown is it normal for the gums to swell up and 'reshape'
aroudn the new tooth/crown?

Mine have sort of formed in the gap between the new crown and old tooth (i
am on my temp crown tho)

Does the dentist do anything to the gums during crown insertion?

There is commonly some inflammation and swelling after the preparation
and impression of the tooth.  The contour of the temp. or permanent
crown also can affect the shape of the adjacent gum, squeezing and
forming the interdental papillae.
It would be unusual to have to do any procedure on the gum to allow
insertion of the crown.
