Does anyone know the success rate of pulpectomy? The dentist said he
needed to do that on my child. It's kind of like root canal.

Pulpectomy is removal of the pulp.  It is not generally done as a
stand-alone procedure, but as either the first part of a root canal, an
apexification procedure, or perhaps something else.  Is this a primary
or secondary tooth?  How old is your child, and exactly which tooth is this?

My child is 6. And it is first primary molar. The old white filling
fell out and the dentist said he need to do Pulpectomy this time
before it is too close to the nerve. And he does Pulpectomy instead of
pulpotomy to reduce the chance of abscess.

Thank you.

I don't want to second-guess your dentist.  Pulpotomy is appropriate
treatment if the pulp is vital.  If not, pulpectomy or root canal can be
done.  Usually I'll try to spin some calcium hydroxide preparation into
the canals--it has an antimicrobial effect.  But I think this really
isn't a misunderstanding so much as a bit of difference in nomenclature.
But many of these teeth wind up being lost early--which usually isn't
a big deal, as MOST of the time premature loss of the primary first
molar doesn't cause drifting forward of the teeth directly behind.  If
the tooth is lost, this space should be monitored though--all of which
I'm sure your dentist will know.

Good luck,
Steve

Thanks. Should we find other dentist for Pulpotomy? I don't quite
understand the different. The current dentist said pulpectomy could
reduce the chance of abscess. My child does not complain toothache.
Just the filling fell out.

The choice of pulpotomy vs pulpectomy/root canal in primary teeth
depends on what is found when the decay is removed, which of course your
dentist would know.  I would not change dentists on the basis of which
procedure is done, which is largely a judgement call.  Also, doing a
pulpectomy on a primary first molar isn't much more work than a
pulpotomy, so I wouldn't make a big deal about this one way or another
at this point.
