What do these two treatment modalities have in common and what sets them
apart?

Today, an American (USA) dentist is on his way to Bologna, Italy where
he will study with two Italian dentists; Prof. G. Luksich and Dr. G.
Stradaioli.  When he returns, I'm hoping someone can convince him to
share his new insight with smd-ers.  I would think there would be solid
interest coming from both new and old smd-ers.

I should have added that he is an orthodontist by specialty.
