I got a Sonicare Elite 9500 for Christmas and since I started using it I've
notice a lot more saliva in my mouth during the day. I looked around and I
read that the Sonicare stimulates saliva production which helps people with
dry mouth. I don't have dry mouth and don't take any prescriptions that
cause dry mouth.
Anyone else have this problem? Can this be the cause of my increased saliva?

I've used Sonicare since the fall of 2000 and can't say that I've
encountered an issue such as you've described. Every few months, I take
a break from the Sonicare for a week or so and use my regular toothbrush
(a ColgatePlus Diamond Shaped Head, Youth-Soft). I have never noticed
any difference when switching back and forth.

Hi,
I have been using a sonicare for several years now and only noticed
saliva prodcution while brushing. Brushing can get messy, but it is
worth it. My gums have been much healthier (I used to brush too hard)
and my teeth feel much cleaner thn when I manually brush.
About the increased saliva. Have you had any crown work done
recently? I had 7 upper restorations done a few years ago. For
several weeks (maybe even a few months), I had excess saliva forming
(as you decribe). I was constantly swallowing. I did not understand
what was going on but I thought it may have been the crown work.
The good news is, it did resolve on its own.
Maybe ask your dentist about this next time you see him/her.
Good luck,
Sue (patient)
