Hydrate before dental appointments?

I was wondering, is it generally better or worse to hydrate before a dental
appointment?  Obviously over hydrating isn't a good thing - unless the
dentist has catheter for you to use, but when having your teeth worked on,
would hydrating decrease the pain felt and or lessen bleeding during the
process?

I've always noticed that when I'm hydrated before a blood test the test goes
so much easier and so much less painfully - although generally speaking a
blood test isn't all that painful anyway.

My overhydrated patients ask to be excused, and it would be silly to
object.
If you're prone to fainting, not being dehydrated might be helpful.
Otherwise, I don't see this as a factor much one way or another.

OTOH, the guy who would drink a pot of coffee right before his
appointment got pretty annoying.

Of course one could have a 'Lisa Nowak' in place.
