My mom has had dentures for awhile and she complains of an extremely dry
mouth while wearing them....so she doesn't wear them often.  Is it
possible that this is a problem due to what they are made of?

She said that her dentist told her that people usually have the opposite
problem with dentures....too much saliva.

Any suggestions?

Dry mouth is a common symptom in older people.  Often this is related
to medications taken.
Biotene has a bunch of products used as oral "lubricants" useful in
helping with dry mouth symptoms.  Another manufacturer recently came
out with similar products (who the manufacturer is slips my mind right
now--I'm thinking it may be Proctor and Gamble, but I'm not sure) so
the price may be lower.

Thanks...I have bought her Biotene, but the problem only seems to exist
while the dentures are in place...so, I'm thinking that it's not
medication related?

Tough to say.  Her mouth may not be objectively dry--sometimes it's a
problem of perception.  OTOH, since dentures require a layer of saliva
for retention, and to lubricate the soft tissues, the dryness may be
most noticeable when the dentures are in place.  Sugar-free candies may
also help stimulate salivation.

Recently had a patient start using Biotene and was quite favorably
impressed.  She really liked the little spray bottle that she
could keep in her purse.  It is convenient and in her opinion,
lasts longer than the mouthwash itself.

Since there are no teeth, does it have to be sugar-free ?
