First of all it does not work that way. Every dentist will have his her
own treatment for you and their fee will be based on what they feel
their work is worth.
Its like asking an artist what's the best price one would have to pay
for an oil canvas painting and how much per painting to decorate a
room.

Second, there are many different porcelain crowns which one are you
referring to. And if you do not know that, then you should not be
asking that question.

Back again....I follow you to a point Dr. V....I would say it's
reasonable to ask the artist what the fee will be and for what...Not
knowing what is available one should ask his or her Artist/Dentist
just what is availabe and what the commission will be for the
different  selections of art. I personally would/do toss in the
question of is it within your abilities and/or desires to even do it.

I would think this an excellent forum to ask and even get info you
weren't even aware existed....I would go the google route too.

Since we exchanged on the 'sue' thread....and my reading of your
posting history on google...I have had some dental work done and am a
tad more knowledgeable as to what to ask and as to what direction I'm
interested in going.

Actually the reaction from my dentist in my case was actually
favorable and reasonable.....he was interested that I was interested
and seemed to find it more than acceptable to being straight foreward
and honest about my situation from his point of view and my point of
view...Which allowed him to say straight out one thing I asked about
for sure could be done...but that he wouldn't do it...which I didn't
take offense to as I might have in the past...Another thing I asked
about he said he said he wasn't really aware of it but would check it
out...on a follow up visit he said he looked into it and said he found
it interesting and if I wanted to go that way he was willing and it
might add to his options for other patients of his...

I guess my point is I picked up some stuff on this forum and I think
the old saying of the only dumb question (or in this case even not
knowing) is the one not asked.

Considering the fact that you said you just had a 7-unit bridge
finished, you should already know the cost. How much did you pay?

That is very, VERY cheap for a 7-unit fixed bridge. (That's assuming
it's a fixed bridge, not a removable partial denture. That would be
very expensive for a standard removable partial denture.)

I have never seen a 7-unit fixed bridge done well for that price, which
is barely over $300 per unit, or about one-third the normal cost in my
region.

On the other hand, I have seen some fixed bridges done for a
similar price that were NOT done well. (My locale is close to the
border region.)

Some of those cheaper bridges had to be done all over again, for a
price higher than what would have been charged if it had been done
right in the first place. And that's in addition to what was already
wasted on the poor treatment.

Penny wise, pound foolish, in many of those cases.

I got a 7 unit fixed upper for $2450.00 and a lower 5 unit fixed for
$1650.00 that will be installed in a week or so.

I had an overbite problem, not buck teeth, all of my life. Back in the mid
70's my lower teeth wore out the back of my teeth so the dentist back then
crowned the upper 7. Then due to the upper teeth being porcelain they wore
out some of my lower teeth. I should have had the upper and lower fixed way
back when. I guess they could have used crowns on cetain upper and lower
teeth to keep me from wearing them out. I was told that I grind my teeth
while sleeping so at one time wore a soft plastic guard. It has been a no
win situation for many many years and I am very happy to have a great
dentist that has fixed this situation.

must have been a very cheap lab.
My lab bill alone is more than what you paid for that much dentistry.
As the saying goes you get what you paid for. I'm sure you will
remember my comments in the next few years.
I've had some people braging how they got all this dentistry for very
little money, then 2 years later everything falls appart of course the
dentist is not willing to redo it.
I've seen it happen time and time again, I can only wish you luck but
you will remember my comments.
