Dental Internship Regulations

I've been googling to no avail attempting to find exactly what the
dental internship regulations are for the state of North Carolina.
Neither the ADA nor the North Carolina Society of Dentistry provide any
obvious information or links.

This regards particularly the practice of interns working alone,
unsupervised, in a local rural dental clinic. Is it possible, legal?

I'm pretty sure that in the state of Indiana, for example, interns are
allowed to work only under the direct supervision of a fully licensed
dentist.

I'm involved in writing and designing proposals for funding for
dental/medical care facilities/clinics.
