I had to have a right canine tooth pulled last week. There was no tooth
structure left so the oral surgeon had to cut it out. He wanted to give
me HYRDOCODONE for pain but my past experience wth this drug is it
makes you sleepy and dizzy and does nothing to numb pain. Anyways, my
mouth it still sore. I can numb the pain with Arthritis Strength
Tylenol but it comes and goes. Is this normal?. Friend who had same
problem says I will be this way for weeks. Called Dentist and his aide
there told me it was possible I could be in pain that long. I had teeth
taken out before including 3 wisdom teeth taken out by an oral surgeon
and the pain never last this long.

Have surgeon check it.  You may have a dry socket, which can be
treated.  It can take a week or two for dry socket to resolve, but if
needed it can be packed with materials that will relieve the pain.
