I have had dentures since 1995. They are chipping pretty bad, guess I
am lucky they lasted this long. I am debating if I should go with
regular ones like I have now or permanent. I haven't discussed
permanent with dentist, as I had hoped to do implants till he told me
the cost. I have dentures on top and all but 8 of my real teeth on
bottom. No Molars at all anymore. I have had fairly good luck with
dentures, dont need adhesive or didnt till lately, I only use if I go
out with friends. They are loser now then they have ever been and drop
sometimes when I talk. SO use adhesive if I go out.
I guess I thought permanent meant they never came out of your mouth
then? More like teh implants, I guess I dont know what permanent means?
I thought they would be sewn in? Am I wrong?
Do they look exactly like normal dentures or more like partials. I
thought they would be just teeth sewn in, like partials, only teeth no
fake middle?
I am only 34 and about to go through a divorce and am thinking if I
date again, and when kissing, I hate the fakey middle part, kinda a
dead giveaway that I have fake teeth, not something I like to brag
about when just starting to date, by teh way I have dentures,
embaressing.....Thought maybe if I got permanent I wouldnt have middle
fake part? I know I should ask my dentist this stuff, just curious what
you all think or have to say...
Anyone know how much there is for cost difference on regular dentures
and permanent? He had told me a quote of $300 for regular dentures
after my insurance pays. I never asked for price of permanent, never
considered it then. I have gotten so use to removing teeth at night,
kinda like when you get home from work and cant wait to take your choes
off and relax, kinda like that with teeth now, cant wait to take off to
go to bed...So I thought I would hate permanent, but sure I could get
use to it...The idea of being single and kissing someone new, terrifys
me, if my teeth fell out or dropped while kissing...Or if i used
adhesive and he could taste it, ahhhhh..Any help would be
appreciated...Thanks...

I assume you're talking about your lower jaw. If you have a decent
distribution of those 8 remaining teeth for a stable partial, that will
be by far the easiest option. When you say "permanent" denture, do you
mean a full mouth of fixed prosthetic teeth, in order to avoid a
removable appliance? If so, this may be possible, but you must be
evaluated by a surgeon to see if you are a candidate. If you then wish
to replace your missing teeth on the lower jaw, you're talking about
major treatment, and a big bill. If you are that motivated to avoid a
removable appliance, by all means work with your dentist and surgeon to
see first of all if it can be done.
Good luck,
Steve
