hi
i had a bilateral sinus life op 2 months ago. after the op my surgeon
said it was the 'worst' he'd ever done ie
the sinus membrane on one side was already perforated and was paper
thin. he tried to repair this and put bone graft material underneath. i
got a bad infection almost straight away, with post nasal drip and
awful smell and taste and pain in cheekbone of that side. i'm now on
3rd course of antibiotics, erythromicin first, then amoxycillin for 10
days which seemed to work but 5 days after finishing symptoms are back
as bad as ever. now on 2nd course of amoxycillin but they dont seem to
be working at all..
does anyone have experience of my situation. wonder if i should give up
the idea of implants altogether?
thanks, maggie

At this point you should concentrate on solving the infection. I'm
hoping there was a culture and sensitivity test done. Some of these
infections are resistant to the older antibiotics. I'm guessing most
oral surgeons have a fair bit of experience treating these infections.
If yours does not, he should get help from an ENT physician if
necessary. Obviously the chances of the graft healing in an infected
environment are not good.

I'm honestly not sure. But I think it's time not to throw antibiotics
in without a reasonable expectation one will work.
Good luck,
Steve

I'm not a dentist, but a patient scheduled for a sinus lift.
Can you tell me what "kind" of sinus lift it was? Mine is to be a
"lateral, crestal sinus lift", in the maxillary, for example.

i'm not sure. it was a bilateral sinus lift but the type wasn't
explained to me.
good luck with yours! i think its quite rare to have the problems i'm
having. maggie

Hi Maggie
I am having a similar problem to yours. I recently had a sinus lift and
almost as soon as I had the procedure I had the same symptoms as you are
having. I had to recently be placed on IV antibiotics and I am still having
major post nasal drip. Fevers and chills. And I still do not feel well. I was
wondering if your problem has been resolved and if so what did they do?
Thanks Peter
