I'm not a doctor. I can only tell you that dentists in the past have
prescribed ibuprofen for me.  You can get a "prescription ibuprofen"
which is , as far as I could tell, exactly the same as taking 4 regular
ibuprofens at once.

The rule is not to combine this with alchohol.

I'm not a medical person, though I do find denistry of interest. My
memory says that Vicodin and Percoset are the same. Hydrocodone and
acetaminophen. I did some quick research on Ultram, and it's a
synthetic opioid, with low potential for abuse.

Ibuprophen (found in Motrin) is very good, and also acetaminophen
(found in Tylenol) is very good. It's OK to take a couple extra ibu,
the Rx dose can be as high as 5 of the pills you get at the drugstore.
I do not reccomend extra acet / Tylenol, as that can cause acute liver
failure. Which is very severe problem. And easily fatal.

For two or three days, the addiction risk is essentially zero unless
you have had some problems with drug addiction in the past. If you've
been on Rx or street medication, that's something to discuss with your
dentist.

Hi,
I have a question for someone qualified enough to answer it.  What
alternatives to narcotic pain relievers after wisdom tooth extraction
are there.  My Dr. prescribed percocet 5mg/500mg acetominophen.  Is
there any other pain reliever that isnt as strong and has less
potential for abuse? something like ultram or tylenol with
codeine(tylenol #3). Even vicodin, that is less addictive, right?
Basically im looking for an alternative to percocet with pain
relieving
qualities as best as possible.  Thanks for taking the time to take a
look at this..

This is Jay, the originator of this message. I appreciate the feedback,
I would like a little more info if posssible especially on the
efectiveness of tramadol(ultram) or tylenol with codeine.  I know these
have less potential for abuse, but are they effective on oral surgery
pain.??  It's be nice if there was a dr. that could answer this
question, but thats not always the case, so ANYONES feedback is greatly
appreciated.
