I am at a loss. I had all of my upper teeth removed in April.  The oral
surgeon place 3 temporary implants and a bridge with broke 4 times before my
dentist made a thicker one and cemented it into place. After about 3 weeks
the back side became loose. The oral surgeon had me come in and get my bottom
teeth cleaned under anethesia on June 6th.  Then I went back on June 15 for 8
more implants.  I woke up several times durring the operation.  To my dismay.
the two temporary implants in the back had broken and so the oral surgeon had
to remove them.. then he placed 4 new temporary implants. My Prothedontist
wants me to have a full upper denture.. the surgeon thinks I would do better
with 4 sections.. 3 teeth each on each implant. I feel like I am in hell.
This was the 4th surgery in as many months. I'm suffering terribly mentally.
I feel as though there is no end in sight . I have swelled up significantly
and so the oral surgeon has put me on a steroid... and then had me take out
the temporary teeth because he said that the swelling would put too much
pressure on the implants and they will break. I've missed out on a week of
work. I'm in danger of loosing my job. I feel like nothing is working. Ive
paid 45,000 and nothing is working. I need help.

Something is very wrong here.  The oral surgeon and prosthodontist
should be working together, not putting you in the middle of this.  I'm
assuming one knows what the other is doing , and you're not playing both
ends against the middle here.
Time for a pow-wow--the three of you hammer this out.  You should not
be in the middle of a food fight--we're presuming the surgeon and
prosthodontist are grownups and professional.
BTW, if you have a prosthodontist, why is the surgeon doing the bridges?

Steve,
I really wish I knew. They keep telling me that they are communicating by
emails.. but the prothedontist thinks I should have a full bridge and the
surgeon says I should have smaller ones. He put in 8 implants thinking that
he is going to put in the smaller despite what the dentist says. I am getting
very worried as my health seems to be taking a turn for the worse. I have
seemingly dropped into having Mono which I havent had since high school and I
am more than exhausted. I swelled up significantly and they put me on
Dexamethason 4 mg which Im worried as my immune system is already compromised.
Any idea on how long that compromise lasts? The Pharmacist said she didnt
know. I have muscle pain and I'm exhausted. I'm supposed to go back to work
tomarrow... If they can get the temporary teeth to fit and not break..but
truthfully, I really feel awful.

You've lost me.  Is the swelling in your mouth?  Who put you on
dexamethasone, and for what purpose?
If you have two specialists supposedly communicating with each other,
and you are clear that each has a very different idea of where your
treatment is headed, IMO you should go no further until this
disagreement is resolved.  It is possible I am misinterpreting what you
are saying (or you are mistaken about the recommended treatment plans)
but as I understand things this disagreement is simply unacceptable.

Steve,
Yes, this is in my mouth. It was so huge that I couldnt even open my mouth
for the first 2 days. Ive had skin pealing off around it since. The Surgeon
put me on the dexamethasone for the swelling. Yes, I have two specialists...
but they are obviously NOT on the same page. Forgive my ignorance.. ( could
be all the pain killer) but what is IMO?
Basically they are doing two different things and I am SO confused. Is it
normal to still be running a low grade fever? Its been between 100.9 and 99.8.
I feel miserable. Thanks so very much for taking time to answer me,.

in my opinion.

If you think you have mononucleosis you MUST tell your surgeon.  I'm no
expert here, but in general steroids are a big no-no in the presence of
viral infection (the context in which I've heard this is herpes
infection, but it may be true for mono as well).
My opinion is unchanged--these "professionals" must get together
themselves and with you to hammer out the best treatment plan you all
can live with.  Otherwise I don't see things improving dentally.  This
is most unfair of them both.

I did tell them even before the surgery took place.  They went straight ahead
with it anyway. I went in today for them to put some teeth back into my mouth.
.. I cant even begin to explain the pain I am feeling. The teeth are not even
fully dug out .. and it looks really terrible... they cemented them in.. but
because there are no implants in the back.. it feels like the back of the
temporary teeth are pushing into my cheeks at the back of my jaw... which
makes it feel like I've been smiling for hours even though I havent... I've
paid so much for this.. cant they make anything more comfortable and
something that looks a bit more realistic than this? I realize that I have to
be like this for the next 4 months.... but I had 3 people ask me what
happened to my mouth.... obviously.. its not passing any sort of reality
factor:(

You need a second opinion.  I wish I could help you, but I can't.  Go
for a consult with a competent prosthodontist or oral surgeon.

Good luck,
Steve

I read through this, as I read all of the implant related questions
and answers, since I am getting 3 implants in 2 weeks, and 2 more in 4
weeks.

So I am not a professional.
But man, I feel for you, and I think you need to get an independent
2nd opinion or two on your problem, IMMEDIATELY!
I hate to say it without knowing more, but it sure sounds to me like
you may be dealing with some screwed up dental "professionals" here -
at least one of them.
So, I'd get thee to a 2nd opinion, quick!
Good luck!

I just read through this post.

The Prosthodontist should be running the show here. He is the one with
the vision for what you should end up with. This vision needs to be
properly communicated to the surgeon. If there are surgical limitations
then modifications to the treatment plan are in order and these must be
made by the prosthodontist not the oral surgeon.
I agree with Steve do not proceed until you sit down with both of them,
say for lunch so that they can watch you eat uncomfortably and the
three of you are on the same page. If these guys are not willing to do
this after you spent $45K then I would look for a better team to finish
the work. This is horrible you are being treated like a patient at a
dental school, even though these guys are beyond that and are supposed
to be professionals.
I can not tell from your posts which one of these guys is out of line
here so by all means if you can not get these guys to meet with you in
person, I would get a second opinion from a prosthodontist or competent
general dentist.
