I am having a crown lengthening procedure done tomorrow and I was
wondering if anyone out there has had it done and if you could tell me
what to expect. I am very nervous and I unfortunately have to attend a
wake tomorrow evening. I am having the surgery at 10:45 am and the
periodontist said it would probably take about 1 1/2 hours and the wake
is from 7-9 pm. I am hoping that I will not have much swelling or pain
but I would sure appreciate some insight to what others have been
through.

Thank you

Unless it is severe and/or bone is involved you'll probably have some
soreness but not much swelling.  What swelling there is can be minimized
by applying ice to the face over the surgery postop 15 min. on/15 min.
off for a couple of hours.  Your periodontist will probably apply a
dressing which will protect the area and diminish discomfort.
Make sure to get complete postop instructions, and a prescription for
pain  meds just in case--but you should be OK.

Thank you so much for your advice. I do not believe it is severe it is
on tooth # 15 and #14 will probably be affected. I have healthy gums
and have to have the procedure due to my tooth being overprepped (is
what I was told by my endodontist). Again thank you for your help I
think it is very nice that professionals post on this website.
