History with current dentist not good. Everything she has done has failed.
Now front crown (replacing five upper front teeth) has fallen out. Now that
there is no crown, I see that the only thing holding the crown on, was one
tiny little piece of one old tooth! No wonder it fell out! Who pays to re-
cement? As soon as it is re-cemented I'm going to go to a different dentist...
this is the final straw!!

This is something you will have to discuss with your dentist - there's
no steadfast rule. Assuming that what you say it's true - everything
she has done has failed - why let her recement it?

That's what I was thinking.  A good opportunity to let someone else
take a look at it before it's fixed.  Maybe it's a crap fit and needs
remaking.

I'd love not to even have her do that, but I am missing my top four front
teeth....can't even go in public....I'm going to have her cement it. Any
dentist can take it off very easily (siince it has almost nothing to hold
onto)..and then I'll see what I am going to do. Also cannot afford in any way
right now to purchase another $5000.00 crown, no matter who makes it.  Thanks
for your replys...

Just to let you know what happened...she didn't charge for cementing...but
much bigger problems now..the bridge managed to cut off to teeth right at the
gum line, which is why the bridge fell off, and why there was only one tooth
left. Now there will have to be surgery to remove at least one of the teeth
that broke off because it also has an abcess!! This is nuts, just nuts...how
do these dentists get away with this? If they do nothing but make problems
worse and  cause further damage by their work why aren't they out of work? I
can't think of anything else in the world that you would pay $5000.00 for,
have it completely fail (and do another at least $1000.00 worth of damage)
and not have some recourse! Why are we all letting this happen. I am furious.

Nice little story which perfectly illustrates why we never go to female
or minority "health professionals."  I'm not saying they are _all_
incompetent, but your chances of getting a bozo go up when
choosing from these groups.  My sister chooses women dentists
and doctors always, and has had similar experiences.

But I do expect for you white male, groveling, kneepad-wearing
types to howl about what a bad, racist and misogynist person
I am.

Any suggestions anyone how might one go about choosing a good dentist?

Statistically, I'd say your best bet would be a white male around
38-48 years old with the usual credentials that would be expected
for a competent dental guy, i.e. graduate of accredited dental
school, etc., etc.  But of course, nothing beats recommendations
from patients of his--or even hers--from people you know and trust.
