I had two errupted maxillary wisdom teeth extracted thursday.  it's
sunday and i have no throbbing pain, but i believe the clot from the
left side has eroded away.  the hole is deep and sort of on the outside
of my upper jaw, facing my cheek.  the right side has mostly closed
over.  i'm afraid i'm going to have a dry socket because of the depth
of the hole and the fact that what's left of the clot is way deep
inside.  is there a period of time that i can get past and be certain
that i'm *not* going to have a dry socket?  i start school again
tomorrow and i'm petrified of having to deal with any complications.

anyone have any info?  i've been looking at this group for past posts
regarding this problem.

At this point you can rinse.  Dry socket following upper wisdom tooth
extraction is much less common than for lower wisdom teeth--esp. for
non-smokers.  The "closing up" on the right side probably has more to do
with the way the walls of the socket came together than with the blood clot.
At 3 days it's normal to have some tenderness.  If there isn't any
spontaneous pain, while you're not really out of the woods from a time
point of view, IMO the chances of a dry socket here are small.

When I had a lower stupid tooth (who decided to call a tooth which
needs to be extracted "wisdom"?) removed, the dentist gave me a
syringe to flush out the socket several times a day. with a curved
plastic needle. I did that, as instructed, and it healed just fine.
