Dear Everybody:
I am 45 years old, but I have to opt for partial dentures as a
consequence of periodontal problems.
Of my UPPER teeth, I can keep 4 (2 Canines + 2 First Premolars).
OF my LOWER teeth, I can keep 8 (2 Central Incisors + 2 Canines + 2
First Premolars + 2 Second Molars).
My dentist told me that I can choose either the ACRYLIC frames or the
METAL frames for the partial dentures, and the difference is that the
metal frame is smaller than the acrylic one but harder for later
modification. Also, the metal ones are slightly more expensive than the
acrylic ones.
Now what are the other pros and cons of the ACRYLIC and METAL frames?
What else should I think about to choose between the two types of
materials?
Additionally, I learned that the jaw bone will continue to lose after
the teeth are removed and dentures placed. How many years will it take
to reach the point that there is NOT enough jaw bone to hold the
dentures?
One website also says that after one becomes edentulous, he/she will
become older faster. How true is this?
Thank you for reading and replying!

I've found that the metal frame helps maintain the bone structure
underneath it. In other words you will have less resorbtion.
Also with the metal frame you will be able to sense hot liquids against
your palate better.
Another disavantage is it is noticeable when you laugh really hard.

I also wonder typically how many days it will take one to get used to
the dentures, meaning being able to have normal speech and eat with
reasonable comfort. --Roland
