Orthodontic surgery - anterior open bite

I will need an anterior open bite operation done, in order to correct my jaw
as I have a very bad bite. So, I would if anyone could be kind enough to
tell me the implications of this surgery on consuming food after it has been
done. In other words, how long will it be before I am able to eat solids
again? As I can imagine that I will be under great pain whilst doing such an
activity.

Thank You.

I don't believe there are any longer any active oral surgeons posting
here.  However, I'm sure the answer depends very much on the particulars
of this surgery.  You may well have your jaws wired together for a
while--obviously in this case you will not be able to eat anything solid.
This is an issue best discussed with your own surgeon.

Thanks for your reply. The extent of the surgery needed is quite complicated
in my case. As I will have to not only get my anterior open bite corrected,
but I have also got an narrow upper arch.

I suggest that you check out this link
http://www.angle.org/anglonline/?request=get-document&issn=0003-3219&volume=074&
issue=04&page=0558

to see a very good example (pictures are near the bottom) of how my bite is,
as it is very similar to the lady in that picture.

Thank you very much.

Pretty wild stuff on that web page.  Obviously, surgery can make
management of this kind of problem quicker.  I've never seen this kind
of anchorage to intrude teeth--wonder if Carabelli has.
