I have internal resorption on a molar, and will eventually have to get it
pulled and have something done. My dentist recommended that when I have it
pulled that I have an implant done. What I need to know is how much will it
cost to have the tooth pulled, the post set, and a replacement tooth made
and installed?

The implant will cost about $2000, and the crown about $1000 more. These are
only approximate numbers and can vary depending on circumstances of your
situation and your location.

My dental insurance claims that they will pay for 50% of a crown, and 50% of
an extraction. I am assuming that the cost of the implant would not be
covered at 50%, but only the extraction portion. So, how much does the
extraction cost, and how much is the implant.
Also, how do the implants feel, and function once they are in place?

I did not include the cost of the extraction. I don't know what a " internal
resorption' extraction would cost.
The $2000 I mentioned is probably an average cost of an implant (no
extraction, no crown), but that assumes there are no complications (not sure
if "internal resorption" of the extracted tooth would cause any
complications for the implant). This is just an average cost estimate that
will vary depending on a number of factors, including location. I would find
an good oral surgeon to do the implant (the same one who does the
extraction).
The implant is "probably" not covered at all by your insurance. Note that
the 50% reimbursement for extraction and crown is based on the amount
charged for in-network dentist or one that is part of your dental HMO.
Deductibles may also apply.

Ask your dentist to file a predetermination of benefits with the ins co.
Then ask what his/her fee will be and your anticipated out of pocket
expenses. Nobody here knows what your dentist will charge. Be aware that
you won't know with certainty what your ins co will pay until they have the
actual claim filed.

Correction. My price was $5700 - from the originally quoted price of
$4000. Dentists neglect to tell you many of the hidden charges that seem
to pop up along the way.
