Gum Swelling

I have for much of my life anyway, what you would call larger than
normal gums, but only from my very back tooth and back behind that.
none of the swelling occurs around any tooth except that very back one
and on both sides.  I have regular 6 month office visits so I don't
believe it to be from decay or anything.  Every time I go in they say
"you have swelling back here" and I say "yes, I know, it's been that
way ever since I can remember".  I'm 31 now, but I had it removed in
college only to have it grow back.

Is there someone out there that can give me an idea what this is?  I
have allergies to outdoor stuff mostly; could it be that?  Any help is
greatly appreciated.

Are the wisdom teeth present?  This sounds like pericoronitis.  There
are some conditions and medications that can cause overgrowth of the
gum, but generally not behind the rear molar.  If you have an impacted
or partially impacted tooth, the gum tissue can get inflamed and swollen.

I had my wisdom teeth removed.  Also, keep in mind that this is behind
the teeth on both sides on the bottom only.  I know when I was a kid,
they wanted to remove my tonsils but my mom wouldn't let them.  Could
that be related?  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Can't say for sure of course, but I rather doubt it.  Should make sure
there isn't a periodontal problem causing the swelling.
