I had 6 implants placed in my lower jaw a few months ago. It is now
time
to uncover them. The plan was to do an implant supported denture with a
bar. Now, my general dentist has suggested, as an option, a fixed
bridge
attached to the implant posts. What are the pros and cons of a bridge
vs.
an over-denture? Thanks.
A bridge is best. It stays put. An over-denture is still a *DENTURE.*

Don't know the location of the implant fixtures. It is unlikely you
are going to be able to place a full arch of fixed crowns on only 6
fixtures. IOW, the six fixtures may be more than enough support for an
overdenture, but insufficient support for a full arch of crowns. This
should be determined by you, the surgeon, and the restorative
dentist--together.

The implants are placed at teeth 19, 21, 23, 26, 28 and 30. I believe
he is thinking
a 12 tooth bridge. Anyway, the general dentist brought up the option. I
plan to talk
to the periodontist next week and see what he thinks. Thanks.

Do check with the periodontist. My sense is that the trend is toward
one fixture for every implant-supported crown.
