Hey there...hopefully someone here can give me some info! I had a
lower, left molar extracted last Monday and I am in horrible pain! I am
still very swollen and the pain is incredible - I haven't slept more
than 3 hours a night since Monday. Saw the dentist on Thursday and they
said it looked like it was helaing "within" bounds....currently taking
Augmentin and the maximum daily allowed number of Vicoprofen, along
with extra strength tylenol. I feel some swelling down my neck as well
and some tightness in my throat and a few swollen glands. At first I
was thinking maybe dry socket - but I do feel some relief with the pain
meds...it's just that I take it and the relief only lasts an hour or so
and then it's back to the type of pain where you have to pace....what I
read about dry socket is that it can't be relieved by pain meds in any
way....any suggestions out there? Could I have an infection that is
resistant to the Augmentin? I should also add that my tongue, on the
left side (extraction side) had a weird strip of sorts down it- where
it is discolored and kind of numb now - this started this morning. Any
guidance I could get would be great - thanks J.

See another dentist.
If it's a dry socket the pain may be easily relieved with a topical
application from your dentist. It works I had it also.
