SoftDent and network upgrade

I'm going to be upgrading a dentist's office from SoftDent 10 to the current
version (which I believe is 11). I've dealt with SoftDent before and I have
done other 10 to 11 upgrades, but for this network I'm going to have to
install a dedicated server and about 5 new workstations with new networking
gear. The last SoftDent 11 install I did, I used a Dell server which had a
Xeon cpu and 3 - SCSI320 hard drives set up in a RAID5 configuration. That's
about a $2200 server there and this new dentist is wondering if I can come
up with anything less expensive. I'm wondering if I could use SerialATA and
use a RAID mirroring with that or if that wouldn't be fast enough? I'm also
planning on using Shuttle small form factor PCs in the ops (which I've done
before with great success) but I'm wondering what other computers people use
in the ops.

Any feedback is appreciated.

We can barely get the e-mail to stop puttin' the doc up the street's
name on it, so I am not completely crazy about it.
