Sue - 20 Jan 2006 16:52 GMT > ??? Hi Chuck,
I am not sure if you miss JOel or if you are glad he is gone! (He seemed to have that sort of reputation around here).
>From what I understand, Joel is so busy with his new dental clinic (working 14 hour days), that he has not had time to post much.
Would you or anyone else like updates? I have talked to him (on the telephone) a few times about his clinic. I hope he can find some time to come on here, but he is not the kind of person that self-advertises the good works that he is doing.
He may be an annoying presence on the boards at times (because his posts are often nonsensical jokes, and not serious replies).. but he is providing a great service to patients (IRL). He truly is. It is too bad he does not choose to share that side of himself publicly on the boards.
JMHO,
Sue (non dentist)

Sue - 23 Jan 2006 16:03 GMT > > > ??? > > [quoted text clipped - 13 lines] > Sure, if you have news, how about some updates? > - dentaldoc Hi Bill,
(I guess I will have to tell you because it seems as though your longtime SMDer JoelY is too shy). :-)
This is what I know:
Dr. Joel has opened a clinic in Philadelphia in the Moyamensing district. They have been in operation now for only a few months. He has 6 PT docs and a patient coordinator on board. He is currently looking for a morning receptionist, as well as some hygiene help.
I asked him if he had a website for his clinic. He said no, and that he generally does not care for "gawdy" advertising in dentistry. He said if he creates a website, it will be a "community website."
His philosophy for his clinic ("Moyamensing Dental") is to deliver optimal treatment at the lowest cost to the patient. Although his is a for profit business, he wants to put the patient first before profit. The office culture that he hopes to establish will view dentistry as a medical profession, not merely a business.
He is all thoroughly understanding a patient's concerns and desires while accurately diagnosing needs. As such he hopes to provide the best care while minimizing cost to the patient. He is not nickel and diming patients for this or that extra 20 minutes (i.e. not charging extra for an extra minutes spent here or there on specific procedures)... at elast that is what I understood... I am paraphrasing what he said.
He takes Medicaid children and has done some pro bono work for non welfare patients as well. He services a lot of lower income families.
They are doing a lot of implant and restorative work. The other day one patient had 11 implants as well as some other resotrative work (I hope this is not HIPPAA violation to say this).
More later, Sue PS The 6 dentists are doing most of the hands-on care. Joel is overseeing and managing. He also spends a lot of time speaking with patients, undertsanding their concerns, symptoms, etc. before he assigns them a caregiver.
letsconnect - 23 Jan 2006 21:20 GMT The other nice thing is that it's all under one roof (general dentists, endo, perio, ortho)...

Just got an update from Joel. If I knew how to link to photos I would.
Joel received a new digital camera as a gift and is playing with it. He sent me a photo of a couple of his docs with a patient. Here is his note (he ok'd me psoting it here) I have however eliminated all Dr.'s full names to maintain their privacies).
-Sue **************************************** (Email From Joel, describing the photo he sent)
"This guy is Dr. S*** G***, D.D.S. from Toyko Japan, then D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, also International scholar in Periodontics, etc.
Everyone here is overqualified!
I just did an online consult from a guy from Iowa, of course with our two periodontists offering opinions .... an implant case! I will probably try to go local with that idea, that is Second Opinions and consultations for Philadelphia people.
Right now I am overloaded with straightening out dental insurance matters. One of my union contacts, a dentist, has lined up the contract for us.
This could be huge.
But-t-t-t-t-t, I still have issues with how the young dentists work up treatment plans. Gosh that a SMD or DentalTown issue as well!
Joely "
Sdores - 26 Jan 2006 23:56 GMT Sue, would you pass a message on to Joel next time you talk to him? I would like to wish his the best in his new business and also, I think what he is doing is wonderful. Thanks, UM MOM Susan

You can tell him yourself. (I mean that in a good way). He would love to hear from you! He may be short on time these days, but getting notes from those that wish him well...?
Everyone has time for that!! :-) :-)
Susan, you have always as been so kind and reassuring towards others on these boards. I am certain that Joel would love to hear from you!! A note from you would help to inspire him on.
I will send you his email (in case you do not have it).
Time for me to run home now.
Have a great evening,
Sue
Sue - 27 Jan 2006 00:15 GMT Susan,
In case you do not have Joel's address:
joeleichen@yahoo.com
He may not write much, as he is pretty busy now, but I am sure he would love to hear for you!! BTW, I do not know Joel in person. I only know him from the boards.. but I have come ot realize he is a very decent guy.
Take Care. I hope you are doing and feeling well. :-)

Sdores - 27 Jan 2006 00:31 GMT That's ok, and yes I do have his address. I just figured he was very busy with the new business. I'll drop him a line. Thanks, UM MOM Susan

Impersonation is very decent huh, Sue?
JanBrewski on Anal Sex is very decent?
20,000 posts using my name... ALL lies is very decent?
I think NOT.
I certainly hope Joel is busy and has changed.

If Joel made those remarks, they were most certainly indecent.
However you profess to be a Christian and you stand proud by your faith.
It may be humanly difficult, but Christians are supposed to be able to forgive others for their prior sins and misgivings.
"... and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us..."
Joel is not perfect. I am not perfect. You are not perfect either. None of us our perfect in our interactions.
Jan, please correct me if I am worng, but quite honestly from what I have seen recently, Joel has treated you quite fairly and respectfully.
Maybe it is best to let those words and actions in the past die. It only stirs up old wounds.
How else can we stop the cycle?
I am not dismisisng Joel's actions as ok. If he did and said those things, they were not ok (in my mind)... but it may be time to let all of that go now anyway.
I think Joel is trying to put his best foot forward with you now.
Sincerely, Sue
JanD - 27 Jan 2006 03:17 GMT >> >> Susan, >> >> [quoted text clipped - 59 lines] > Sincerely, > Sue Yes, that why I made my last remarks.

Sue,
To post photos just go to the www.tinypic.com website. (There are many others but tinypic.com is a popular one.)
The opening screen shows the "browse" button which allows you to locate any picture on your hard drive (in the usual jpg, gif, png or bmp formats) and easily upload it just by clicking on the picture file. The website does the rest.
It then shows you the URL of your newly hosted picture. You just place this url in your message here, and anybody can then view it!
For example, try this one:
http://i1.tinypic.com/mmtv83.jpg
You can host different pictures, or even host the same pic more than once, though that's really unnecessary:

Sue, thanks for the fine picture. It looks like the clinic is up and running!
P.S. I always get a kick out of pictures that show dentists wearing a face mask to protect themselves from exposure to a patient's potential microbes -- but who wear the mask down BELOW the nose so that they can actually breathe!
Of course, this negates the theoretical purpose of the mask in the first place, but it's probably more important to have a dentist who can breathe and not pass out right on top of the patient.
