Dear All,

I am currently looking for a new job.  I have completed my vt last year.
With all these changes to the NHS and the timing of trying to find a new
job, I am seriously considering private practice.

I wanted some advice if this seems feasible.  I qualified in 2004 and have
been well trained under the old NHS system.  I have worked in mixed
practices to date.  When I was undertaking vt, we were advised to stay
within the NHS for the first few years after qualifying.  I now find myself
in a position where I would love to work in private practice without the
added hassle of the NHS regulations and complications of the new changes.

To become a private practitioner, do I need more practice experience than I
already have or even further training?  Surely my clinical skills and
confidence will determine my ability to practice successfully whether its
NHS or private?  I hope to move away from the NHS eventually, so why not do
it now?

All advice very welcome, thanks.

Hi drT, are you on the gdp-uk mailing list yet? As far as I understand
(as a non-dentist), private practice vs NHS is one of the issues
discussed there... it's powered by Yahoo! Groups, so there should be a
lot of reading in the archives (at a guess). More info at
