Dentistry question about electronic tooth brushes

I use a very cheap $5-$10 Oral B brand that I purchased at Walmart.  It
seems to get the job done to my satisfaction and standards.  But such
standards may be uneducated.

Questions

1)  What are the differences between such a cheap electronic tooth brush
and these $150-$300 versions that I also see at Walmart?

2)  One person told me that overtime a electronic tooth brush will
deteriate my teeth.  Is this myth or fact?  I have never heard of such a
thing, but remember that I also have never taken a college level class
in dentistry, nor read dentistry magazines or books. My education has
been from the public, which as you know does not properly educate
people.

Thanks,

John

John,

Have you ever asked your dentist about this?   My dentist and his staff
recommended a Sonicare. It cost about ~$70.00 at Target  Stores about 4
years ago.

Personally I think the investment is worth it.  My gum health has
improved since I have been using it (as per my dentist and staff @ my 6
month dental exams). My husband loves the brush too.

We will never go back to manual now.  I have tried the Oral B (when I
travel), but it does not seem to compare to the Sonicare.  My teeth do
not have that slippery (clean) feeling after using the Oral B, like
they do when I use the Sonicare...which leaves my teeth feeling like
they have been professionally cleaned.

It seems to brush gently and effectively.  It times out after 2
minutes, so unless one repeats several cycles, I do not think you can
"overbrush." (non-dentoid opinion of course).

My advice is to seek out a dentist for a complete cleaning and exam.
You will also  get an exam for oral cancer,  periodontal health check..
and more.

Then at the same time you can ask all of these questions of your
healthcare team.  A good dental staff will be more than happy to answer
these sorts of questions.  I think it may also depend on the state of
your current oral health, as to what they may recommend for you.

JMHO.

Best,

Sue (a patient)

PS I have no investment in Soncicare other than owning one.  I am sure
there are many other comparable brands out there.
