Hydrocodone vs Codeine

Just a quick question:

(I know this is on the web *somewhere* but I can't seem to find it
right now)

I went to the dentist yesterday and I have a bad infection and need a
root canal  (scheduled for Jan 4).

He prescribed Tylenol 3 which isn't doing *anything* for the pain (and
an antibiotic).  I called and of course couldn't get past the
receptionist.  She said that he couldn't prescribe anything that would
be stronger than the T3.  (Said she has worked there longer enough to
know that T3 is the strongest pain medication)

The last time I had a tooth problem, I was given Hydrocodone (40mgs I
think).  That seemed to work as I remember.

Is T3 "stronger" than Hydrocodone?

Thanks-
Sammi

IMO, Tylenol #3 is not worth the bottle to put it in.

Vicodin is better (not great), but has higher abuse potential.

Ketoprofen and Ibuprofen are just as good for most dental pain
without that issue.

I wholeheatedly agree!

>Vicodin is better (not great), but has higher abuse potential.

I was able to get the other dentist at the practice (mine had already
gone on holiday) to prescribe that and - wow - what a difference (to
me anyway).  I was finally able to almost forget about the tooth and
also get some much needed sleep.

It's really terrible that the "abuse potential" has to be put first
these days.  All I wanted was to ease the tooth pain until the
infection was under control and to get through until my appointment
after the holidays.  Somehow I don't think 15 Vicodins will cause me
to become street junkie *nor*  is going to undermine the War on Drugs.

I was taking Ibuprofen with *very* little relief.  Maybe it's just me.

Thanks for the info, Dartos!
