Update on "Should I get the root canal before the crown?"

So here it is 2 weeks after my tooth was drilled out in preparation
for the crown, and although my tooth is still at times sensitive to
hot and cold, it has not given me any unprovoked pain.

I go in for the permanent crown on Tuesday the 20th and I plan to ask
him to place it with temporary cement, as my other USC dentist (who I
will be going to for the next 5 months at least, as I get my implants
and crowns and veneers and some other work) said that is best, and it
makes sense to me. At least one dentist here also recommended that
course of action.

I still do not know if I need a root canal on it but I'm guessing I
don't since it hasn't hurt yet. Of course, with my luck, I will need
one the day after I get the crown permanently cemented! (-;

Jim,

I think that your dentist should be able to advise you as to whether or
not a root canal is indicated now.  If a root canal is not indicated,
then I think your request for temporary cement is sound. This will
allow you and your dentist more time to see how it goes.

Good luck.

Sue, the reason I am leaning towards not getting the root canal now -
unless it is DEFINITELY indicated - is that I am no longer going to go
to this DeltaCare HMO plan dentist, and I would prefer to let my new
USC dentists make the decisions as I trust them more.

Jim,

I see.  Thanks for the clarification. Please let us know what the USC
dentists advise.
