Question re crown being made

I went in to be drilled and impressions made for a crown last week,
with my Delta PMI dentist
.
I go back on the 20th for the crown to be fitted.

Meanwhile, yesterday, my USC implant crown dentist saw me and the prof
looked at my mouth and the temp crown and commented that I should tell
the dentist making the crown to make it more horizontal, (higher in
the front) in order to fit the future implants better; in other words,
to bring it up higher in the front than what it currently is, or what
would normally be done, so that it will be on more of a pure
horizontal plane as opposed to how it is now.

My question is, can the dentist making the crown still do this, or
isnt' it already sent off to the lab with instructions on how it is to
be made?

I have a feeling this dentist will have his feathers ruffled if I tell
him that the prof at USC asked me to ask him to make it higher in the
front...

But is it too late to tell him this?

IMO it is unfair for you to be asked to negotiate between these two
dentists.  I would object to another dentist making requests through the
patient.
I think the ideal situation would be for the USC dentist to call your
other dentist on the phone and discuss this.  Second best would be for
him to write a detailed note with suggestions.  Time for these guys to
act professionally and not put you in the middle.

Wish I'd have thought of that. This is the first time I saw this
particular dentist, so it's not like they'd put me in this position
before. I should have asked him to call the dentist.

But is it too late, (has the crown already been ordered to certain
shape and size that cannot be changed? or is this something that will
happen when it is installed?)? If it's not too late I will call the
student dentist and ask her or her prof to call the dentist.

Okay,(since you didn't get an answer yet) IF the crown has already
been made, the lab can re-do with modified specifications.
Steve is right, better coming from the USC prof or student to your
other dentist, if nothing else, so they can hash out the details.

Thanks. I'll definitely call the  USC dentists and ask them about
calling my private dentist about the crown.

I'll let them deal with it, since it's their idea. It's unfortunate
that I have the distinct impression my dentist would be upset about me
- or perhaps even the USC dentists - making a suggestion as to how to
make the crown. Arrogance is not a good quality in a care provider, in
my opinion. Whether he plans to do it the way the USC dentists want him
to is unknown to me. Since he is not involved in the implants he may
not be thinking in those terms. (the implant that is going to go in
above meeting the crown below)

Now I see why my USC dentists said they would have preferred to do the
crown. However, I was not aware of this and figured it was just easier
- and at the time, I thought, cheaper - to get it at my private
dentist. But as soon as I'm done with this crown I will never see this
private dentist again. 1) he pulled bait and switch on me with the
crown elements/service; and 2) he seems very arrogant and not very
client-friendly. I get a much better feeling from the people at USC
dental school, and I believe they willl do good work. Of course only
time will tell.

Thanks for the input.

Another reason why if he does the crown, they have to contact him.

If he's not acting in your best interest, you could pay for what you
owe so far (lab fee and prep time) and switch to USC people for the
crown.  I have no way of knowing who will do the better job, your
decision. Hard to tell.

Thanks for your comments.

Well, I already paid in full (I now realize I shouldn't have), and I
assume he has already ordered the crown. So I think it would be
complicated - and probably result in an argument - for me to have
someone else do the crown. Seems to me that the 2 dentists should be
able to talk to each other and come to an agreement. If they can't,
then that says something about both dentists...

I wrote my USC dentist an e-mail and asked her to call - or have her
prof call - my dentist and work it out. We'll see what happens.

Then what are you complaining about?  You all want a free lunch, or someone
to do your thinking for you.

TD, you and me seem to be on a similar tack in life about now.

You're a better sailor than I first thought.
But, the race is to the last bouy;
or is it ?

Time for a downwind run.
Hoist the spinnacker.
Trim the upwind sheet, and haul the downwind to the lee.
Set the spinakerpole downwind and downhaul the lower clip.

While you're at it... see if they can cure your apparent
case of terminal verbal diarrhea.

I just love being KF'd, don't you ?

I would hope your dentist would know the requirements of the crown
himself, but not knowing would inquire on his own.  If her professor has
some requests he/she should make contact.
