I had multiple teeth removed last week. After a day or 2, I realized
one of the sockets was not closing on an extracted left rear tooth, and
that it was open to my nasal passage. When I rinse my mouth, water can
travel through the socket into my left nostril.
I am seeing the oral surgeon tomorrow (it was the soonest he would be
there). What will it take to correct this problem? I'm very nervous
and scared of what he's going to do.

Numb it up, currette, resorbable pack/grafting material, and suture.
Usually not too big a deal.
Good luck,
Dartos

Oro-Antral Fistula.
These often will close by themselves, others must be surgically closed.

For small ones, I often just slide over a small pellicle of tissue and
re-suture.

Most times they will close by themselves if proper AB and decongestant
is used.
If it needs primary closure it is easy enough. Sliding a bit of the palate
over the defect and suturing is usually sufficient.

Thank you for all the replies. I saw the Oral Surgeon today and like
you said, he prescribed Augmentin and Sudafed. He also scheduled me to
have it closed surgically in 2 weeks if not closed on it's own. he
said he would make 2 slits and flap it over the opening then suture.
This is at an additional charge of $750.00 which my insurance is not
covering. He also said it would only take about 10 minutes. Does this
money sound outrageous??

Sounds like the fee is to entice you into letting it close on its own.
Which in most cases it will if given enough time.
