Bridge necessary?

Some time ago, I had to have a molar on my lower right side (no. 30 I
believe) extracted. That leaves me with the molar behind it as the only
remaining molar there, as the wisdom tooth was also extracted.

I had to have a root canal on this tooth a few weeks ago. Tomorrow I will
be seeing a bridge and crown specialist for consultation. Basically my
question is, is it necessary to have a bridge to maintain the stability of
the remaining molar, or is it possible for me to get my with just a crown
on this tooth and no bridge?

Also, the tooth is still a bit tender, apparently because the temporary
crown was too high; two days ago the dentist who did the root canal
trimmed down the temporary crown a bit. Is it normal to still have some
tenderness at this point?

Of course, I will be discussing these questions with the specialist
tomorrow, but would appreciate any feedback here.

You should see a gradual diminution of soreness to biting
pressure--assuming the temporary is not high anymore.
OTOH, this tooth should be able to function, so merely grinding it so
it doesn't contact the opposite tooth may make it feel better than it
would in function.  Any tenderness to tapping should resolve IMO before
a permanent restoration is placed.
Teeth drift--sometimes.  The upper right molar may drift downward, and
the second molar may tip into the space as well.
Or not.  I have frequently seen no detectable drift at all in your
circumstance.  You can of course have a single crown placed on the
second molar and an implant placed to restore the first molar.
If the second premolar (the tooth in front of the space) is pretty
beaten up, and both it and the second molar are periodontally healthy, I
would lean toward having a bridge done now.

My #30 needs a root canal too. A part of the tooth chipped off. I don't
want it extracted as it could cause shifting and also there'd be a gap
between #29 and #31. I'm sure having #32 pressing up against #31 didn't
help matters for all those years as 30 was being squeezed.. Fortunately
megio-angular #32 was extracted last month, but the damage may have
already been done.
#30 needs the RC bad, hurts to chew on that side and food keeps getting
stuck in the cavity.
