I had my #18 extracted 3 weeks ago and a bone graft for future implant
there.
2 weeks after the extraction, I posted here that I was still having
some pain there and asked if that meant it was infected. The consensus
seemed to back up what my oral surgeon said one week after, when he
looked at it, which was that it was not infected and it is normal that
it still hurt some.
3 weeks, now, and it STILL hurts some, maybe a little less than 2
weeks after, but sometimes when I drink cold or hot liquid it hurts
for a while afterward. About the same as last week.
Is it still normal that I am feeling some pain? How long might I
expect this type of mild pain after hot or cold liquids or food go on?
It literally feels the same as it did before the extraction, that it
hurts sometimes when I drink hot or cold, only now there's no tooth
there!

Have the adjacent teeth checked. Sometimes during extraction,
significant forces can be placed against the adjacent teeth. Also, if
the extraction was somewhat traumatic there could have been a bit of
root exposure on the adjacent teeth. This exposes the roots, which can
increase thermal sensitivity.
Having said this, if the pain is less, it's probably OK--even given the
glacial pace of improvement.

Thanks. I'll wait another week or so before going in for a check...
unless the pain INcreases...
