I had a screening at the dentist recently and they took alot of x-rays.
Also that pain I had from the right side is now almost entirely coming
from tooth #2 (upper right molar). It's quite sharp pain, esp when I'm
sleeping or having a hot or cold drink. Dentist said there was a big
cavity there, he said that he will get alot more info on it from the
x-rays. If it indeed needs a root canal and crown, I'm screwed because
NYS Medicaid won't cover that and I don't have $1000 lying around. Will
an extraction of this tooth be difficult and cause shifting problems? I
guess only my dentist can determine that. Meanwhile, is there anything
that would temporarily relieve the pain? Most over-the-counter
painkillers don't work too well. Ambesol helps briefly. I've seen
"tooth desensitizers" that you apply every 28 days for sale in the
store for $10 or so. Would this be a short term solution to the pain?
I also have some pain coming from the last molar on the bottom right
side as well, that tooth has a filling, but there's some decay on the
right side of it (where the wisdom was pressing up against it).
I also have one more wisdom tooth on my lower left side. This one has
grown in straight but has a cavity and will be coming out next week,
before it has a chance to hurt.
So all 3 of my wisdom teeth will finally be out. But I'd rather not
have to lose any of my regular teeth like tooth #2. But I guess I may
not have a choice in the matter it seems. Hopefully it won't cause a
tooth shift or trouble chewing. Can I go the tooth desensitizing route
until I have either saved enough $$ or find someone to help me?
I see my dentist twice next week (once for a cleaning, once for a
wisdom extraction) and depending on the x-rays have any cavities filled
on the 1st week of Nov.

Usually not.

Depending on whether or not its abscessed, V-Cillin-K 250 or 500mg may
help.

It's better to have everything cleaned first before major work is done.
What I can say now is heresay until I get the x-ray results. If the
condition of #2 is very poor, then it's removal would take priority.
Even over the wisdom tooth. #2 is quite painful at times, keeps me up
at night.
Just to add today I recieved the results of the xray. The good news is
the upper molar tooth (#2) that is hurting me can be filled.
The bad news is that tooth #30 has chipped and weakened so much it
needs a root canal. Being that this tooth is not all the way in the
back and will leave a gap if removed, and the dentist felt that
removing it could cause problems, a root canal is advised.
The tooth is not hurting now but could hurt soon. And of course on my
disability I cannot afford the root canal and Medicaid won't pay for
it. I really need some help. All I need is 50 people to give me $20 and
I can have my tooth fixed. Please.
