Wisdom teeth extraction -- healing question

I'm a 29-year-old male who got both wisdom teeth on the right side extracted
three weeks ago. The bottom tooth was slightly impacted and only half of the
tooth had broken through my gums. I have read before that it is supposed to
take about a week for the "holes" to close up, but since this has not
happened I wanted to ask whether my situation is normal. My dental health is
otherwise good. I've never had any cavities, but I'm a bit of clencher.

The top socket healed within two weeks to where it was more of an
indentation than a hole, but not much seems to have happened since then. The
bottom socket is still a big  hole where food gets trapped etc (I rinse it
out with a syringe). My dentist told me that it would heal from the bottom
up, but it's hard to how it is progressing, because it's hard to see the
bottom of the hole.

Do I just need to be more patient? Is it possible the whole will not fill up
with tissue?

Thank you!

I'm not a dentist but have had a tooth removed before.  It takes about
6 months to completely fill the hole.  As long as it isn't painful I
wouldn't worry about it.  I didn't do any special cleaning with mine.
Didn't want to aggravate it at all.

Oh, really? I had heard that the bone would take that long to "heal", but I
thought that the soft tissue would close up to where the extraction site
looks normal from the outside much faster than that.

Thanks,

There is really no simple answer to how long before the divet in the
soft tissue closes up.  It depends upon whether the extraction was
sutured, how much tissue trauma was suffered during the extraction,
whether there was loss of the bony wall of the socket.  It can take
months.  However, a year later it is rare to have any residual sign of
the extraction.

Good dental term, in any case.
