Help please. I had an extraction last week.A difficult procedure.I felt lucky
to keep my head.
After following my dentists advice, of pain killers and avoiding touching the
area, I finally gave in to the sheer pain  nausea and discomfort of the last
4 days , and placed my small finger between the gum and cheek to feel a sharp
piece of bone protruding through the gum. My anger at the dentist not
checking this after the extraction has made me certain of not returning. But
no one will look or consent to treat me.Do I have any rights.I paid privately
and yet I seem trapped with no way out. Any info would be gratefully received.

No big deal.  Happens a lot.  Sometimes the tissues heal differently than
expected and spicule of bone protrudes out.  Sometimes, it is a tiny sliver
of bone which lost its blood supply (or separated when the tooth came out),
and slowly worked its way to the surface.  Your dentist should be able to
rub some topical anesthetic on it and slide the piece out.  Once or twice, I
have had sharp corners sticking out after an extraction that I did not
expect to be exposed by the healing process.  I just numbed the area,
touched it lightly with a diamond bur and the tissues grew over it in a
matter of hours.

Thanks for that. This seems to be horizontal and away from the cacity itself,
the splinter
feels to be in two parts, facing towards the jaw hinge. This was a rear molar
extraction?
Not much room at the back but it impairs closing the jaw.

You said it better, I still think if discomfort exists an exam for a dry
socket is in order.  I remember taking a few of those out on myself when I
had my lower thirds taken out in dental school.

My PC crashed before my response could be posted - then too busy to repost
and you said it better - as usual..  And I have no doubt this is someone
that once received a strange package in the mail one day.  ;-)
