On Tuesday I had a filling (& nerve removed) on a painless tooth, although
the socket behind it was infected. I had a course of antibiotics before the
treatment.

I've just experience a sharp shooting pain whilst chewing on the tooth for
the first time, then a slight ache for about 10 minutes.
Is this typical?

I cannot get to any dentist in the near future.

It's not clear to me whether the root canal was completed.  In any
case, it is extremely common to have tenderness to biting pressure after
a root canal is started or completed.  This generally diminishes over a
day or two, though it can sometimes linger for a week even in the
absence of problems.
It is important that the bite on any filling is properly adjusted, as a
filling that is too high may also cause pain.  This will necessitate a
trip to the dentist if there is a problem in this department.
Monitor the symptoms.  They will likely diminish soon.
