Hi all,
I obtained my D.D.S in 1994, took and passed FL boards the same year,
and
practiced until late 1996. Since then, I've done nothing related to
dentistry and would have to take state boards and probably national
part II
again.
I'm not so much worried about passing the boards as I am getting up to
speed. Surely advances in the field have been made and of course, I
would
not feel comfortable working on patients after such a long layoff.
Short of going back to dental school, any recomendations would be
appreciated.
Ultimately, I am not sure what I would like to do, but I am looking at
the
possibility of working in under-served areas of Hawaii, or practicing
in
Costa Rica or Panama.
This leads me to another question: What are the licensing requirements
in
Costa Rica and Panama?

I'd contact their embassies, if I were you. If you have some $$$, I'd
take some hands on courses in the areas of dentistry you want to
requalify in. The advertizing based journals will be repleate with the
more price-y of these, but if you contact your old school, they may want
to accept you as a clinician in the 3rd and 4th year clinics. That way
you can observe what the practice is becoming relatively painlessly.
Observing in a few dental clinics would also be a good idea.
